The Origin appellation (DO) Cava from Almendralejo’s vineyards will pair with the inaugural dinner of the International Competition of Wines, Vermouths, Vinegars, Oils, Spirits, Sakes, and Shochus (CINVE) 2026, an international event taking place in Cáceres from March 26 to 29.

A total of five wineries located in the Badajoz municipality of Almendralejo are part of the DO Cava: Bodegas Dehesa de Arriba (Grupo Martínez Paiva), Bodegas Orán S.L, Bodegas Romale, Bodegas López Morenas S.L, and Bodegas Vía de la Plata S.L.

These five wineries are situated in the southernmost and westernmost area of the DO, within the Viñedos de Almendralejo zone, comprising this municipality in the Tierra de Barros region of Badajoz. Its practically flat terrain and the climate of this area of the Iberian Peninsula provide unique conditions for producing Cava de Guarda, Cava de Guarda Superior Reserva, and Cava de Guarda Superior Gran Reserva.

Almendralejo has been the only municipality in the region with the DO Cava designation since 1983. This history began at the start of the decade, driven by local entrepreneurs who recognized the suitability of creating this unique product. It has since become an essential part of any celebration and was one of the stars of the inaugural CINVE dinner, an event whose purpose is to find the world’s best quality wines and spirits, and which has been held in Cáceres since 2020.

The 22nd edition of the International Wine and Spirits Competition, held in Cáceres, alongside the 17th edition of the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition, the 7th edition of the Vinegar and Vermouth competitions, and the 4th edition of the International Cider Competition, CINVE continues to champion excellence, diversity, and the international projection of the agri-food sector, thereby positioning Extremadura on the international wine and gastronomic map.
