Art and wine come together in Toledo thanks to the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route and the exhibition “Abstrack” by Agustín Decórdoba in Toledo
The Route has also been a highlight this weekend at the III Artisan Cheese Fair of Ribera del Fresno
Art and wine have come together through the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route and the exhibition “Abstrack” by Agustín Decórdoba, a showcase that opened last Friday, April 10, at the San Clemente Cultural Center in Toledo.
Agustín Decórdoba has been one of the great ambassadors of the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route, a multidisciplinary artist from Plasencia trained in Fine Arts and an exponent of figurative and abstract expressionism.
Decórdoba passed away in 2024, leaving a vast artistic legacy such as the series “Woman” and “The Guardians of the Forest,” the latter capturing the vision of the fields of Extremadura and giving its name to the book by Art History PhD José Antonio Ramos.
He is one of the most notable and recognized visual artists in Extremadura, who considered wine as another form of art. Indeed, he stated that it is an “art comparable to that of Leonardo or Velázquez.”
His exhibition, “Abstrack,” opened this Friday at the San Clemente Cultural Center of the Provincial Council of Toledo, and the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route was responsible for offering an honorary cava from the Cava Designation of Origin (DO).
Five wineries located in the municipality of Almendralejo, capital of the Extremaduran region of Tierra de Barros, are part of the DO Cava.
Located in the southernmost and westernmost area of the DO, in the Viñedos de Almendralejo zone, their almost flat terrain and climate provide unique conditions for producing Cava de Guarda, Cava de Guarda Superior Reserva, and Cava de Guarda Superior Gran Reserva.
Almendralejo is the only municipality in Extremadura with DO Cava since 1983, a history that began at the start of that decade thanks to local entrepreneurs who recognized the suitability of creating this unique product.
The exhibition can be visited until May 8 of this year. Admission is free.
III ARTISAN CHEESE FAIR OF RIBERA DEL FRESNO
The Route has also been a key participant in the III Artisan Cheese Fair of Ribera del Fresno, where it took part in two tastings of wines from the DO Ribera del Guadiana and DO Cava.
In this way, it offered an educational children’s tasting of sheep, goat, and cow cheeses, as well as a pairing tasting of cheeses with wine and cava for adults, where attendees had the opportunity to taste, with the help of the Route’s partner company “Cata con Cati,” a white wine from the Ribera del Fresno Cooperative, another from Abaxial Blanc de Noir, and an organic Brut Nature cava Romale.
