The awards ceremony was held at the Wine Science Museum in Almendralejo.
The Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route presented its first National Journalism Award this Thursday, June 18th, at the Wine Science Museum in Almendralejo, to Miriam Moreno Bañón for her radio report on this wine tourism route, broadcast on the program “Tierra de Vinos” on Onda Cero Extremadura.
Miriam Moreno Bañón emphasized her pride that her work has reached the public and shared the award with Onda Cero Extremadura and its director, Francisco Vadillo, who was also present at the ceremony.
“This award recognizes a piece of journalism and also a way of understanding journalism: going out into the streets, listening, observing, and letting people tell their stories,” said Moreno Bañón, who highlighted the work and effort of the families who contribute to the region’s wine sector.
THE VALUE OF COMMUNICATION
The gala was attended by the mayor of Almendralejo and president of the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route, José María Ramírez, who stated that this award recognizes the value of communication as a tool for disseminating the region’s heritage and identity. He explained that behind the wines, wineries, and cava, there are stories, people, hard work, tradition, and a way of understanding the community that deserves to be known.
“Sometimes we take for granted what we have close by, but the reality is that the route has become a magnificent showcase for Extremadura,” Ramírez emphasized, adding that Almendralejo, the capital of Tierra de Barros, is also an International City of Wine and Cava.
In this regard, the First Vice President and Deputy Delegate for Municipal Cooperation and Mayoral Affairs of the Badajoz Provincial Council, Juan María Delfa, added that the Tierra de Barros region is “immensely rich in heritage, culture, people, and economy.”
Delfa highlighted the role of journalists in narrating the positive aspects of Extremadura. “Assets such as the wine sector in this region where we are located. A driver of wealth and employment, which has also managed to establish a distinctive identity as a gastronomic and wine tourism destination,” stated the First Vice President of the Badajoz Provincial Council.
The event was attended by members of the municipal councils of Almendralejo and Villafranca de los Barros, the president of the Ribera del Guadiana Designation of Origin and board member of Caja Rural de Extremadura, María Luisa Regaña, members of the Ribera del Guadiana Wine and Cava Route, members of the Ribera del Guadiana Wine Brotherhood, and representatives of Caja Almendralejo, among other authorities.
